We may be parallel
But the world has set us apart
As far as I can tell
It's not as simple as end to startWe lie here in ruin, the future never waits
But I'm still caught up in suspended animation
But I'll fight for every inch
'Cause I can't help itI can't get to you
If I'm running away
You can't connect
If you just want to stay
If you can't really say we are made this way
It's in our DNABut you said
Leave it unspoken, leave it to motions
Leave it unspoken, leave it to
Leave it unspoken, leave it to motions
Leave it unspoken, leave it toWe lie here in ruin, the future never waits
But I'm still caught up in suspended animation
But I'll fight for every inch
'Cause I can't help itI can't get to you
If I'm running away
You can't connect
If you just want to stay
If you can't really say we are made this way
It's in our DNA
Voia:
I've always enjoyed the positive and bouncy nature of future house as a genre and have welcomed it warmly as a successor to the stylistic features that other genres of electro house have provided over the past 15 or so years.
The idea for DNA came out of this affinity for future house, which was a style I had attempted multiple times over the course of a few years, but hadn't been quite able to crack the code on how to effectively convey the energy that songs in this genre had previously displayed. When being approached for Club Fantastic, I felt as if it was worth taking a final shot at future house in the context of a rhythm game.
Slyleaf knocked it out of the park with her writing, and exceeded my expectations on expanding the lyrical content surrounding themes prevalent in my songs, in particular, exploring what it means to be human. There's a profound longing in the lyrics that I am personally drawn to and really inspired my approach to production.
This song is in C minor, which has been a common key to write in for me, and a nod back to some of my favorite previous singles, "Jackrabbit" and "Almost Human".
